Why This Matters
In Enhanced Pathways, meeting roles are required at every level and must be completed while you are working in
that level. The best way to avoid delays is to treat meeting roles as appointments—not last-minute
add-ons.
|
| |
A Simple “Look-Ahead” Plan
Use this quick planning method at the start of each level:
|
Step 1 — List
Look at your current level and write down the required meeting roles.
|
Step 2 — Schedule
Pick 2–3 upcoming meetings and ask your VPE to schedule you early.
|
|
Step 3 — Pair
Pair roles with your speaking plan (example: be Table Topics Speaker before the Ice Breaker, then evaluate soon after).
|
Step 4 — Track
Log the role promptly (and keep a simple personal checklist so nothing gets missed).
|
|
| |
The “Role Ladder” (Easy → Advanced)
The required roles are designed to build skills over time—starting with simpler participation roles and progressing
into leadership and meeting management.
|
| |
Level 1: Table Topics Speaker, Evaluator, and Timer or Ah-Counter
Level 2: Grammarian, Topicsmaster, Evaluator, and Toastmaster / Timer / Ah-Counter
Level 3: Toastmaster, Topicsmaster, and Table Topics Speaker (or Introductory Mentor option)
Level 4: Toastmaster, General Evaluator, Evaluator, Topicsmaster/Table Topics + a specialized role (or mentor option)
Level 5: Multiple higher-demand roles (including repeated General Evaluator/Topicsmaster/Evaluator)
That’s why planning early pays off—advanced roles are harder to schedule at the last minute.
|
| |
Smart Role Choices That Make Life Easier
Front-load the “easier” roles (Timer, Ah-Counter, Table Topics Speaker) early in the level.
Pair Evaluator with your learning goals (observe a skill you’re working on and evaluate with that lens).
Use Toastmaster/General Evaluator strategically when you can attend early and stay to the end.
Choose a specialized role that fits your club (Online Moderator, Tech Host, Visual Aids Manager, etc.).
Tell your VPE what’s coming (“I’ll need General Evaluator twice in Level 5—can we plan those now?”).
|
| |
How This Helps Your Club
When members plan meeting roles instead of “hoping something opens up,” clubs benefit immediately:
Agendas fill faster and meetings run more smoothly
Members build confidence by participating consistently
New members get supported because experienced members can mentor (and model roles)
The club creates a culture of shared responsibility (not “the same few people”)
|
| |
Bottom Line
Meeting roles are no longer “optional extras”—they are part of your Pathways progress at every level. The good news?
If you plan ahead, roles become a powerful tool: you’ll build skills faster, avoid delays, and make your club stronger
at the same time.
