“Small tools, when used well, create powerful speakers.”
Frank Storey, DTM

A pocket guide to the Pathways program simplifies what can feel like a complex system, giving members quick, easy access to key steps, project details, and skill focus areas. Instead of searching through multiple resources, they can stay focused and prepared right when it matters most.

It also builds confidence and consistency by keeping helpful tips and reminders always within reach. This supports steady progress and reinforces learning—perfectly aligning with the mission of Toastmasters International to develop communication and leadership skills through practical experience.

Vintage Paths

April 2026

Two new Pathways paths are now available, allowing members to step into Toastmasters history. Basic Training for Toastmasters features a version of Toastmasters content first introduced by Ralph C. Smedley in 1943.

The Communication Series: Entertaining + Storytelling includes the beloved Competent Communication manual, along with The Entertaining Speaker and Storytelling Advanced Communication manuals. Both paths are available for purchase in English on the Choose a Path Page after the completion of Level 1 in any other path. Members working in a vintage path will access the classic content on Base Camp, where they can navigate through the manual directly on Base Camp or download and print a copy. Members will earn Distinguished Club Program credit, along with new credentials and badges for every level in these paths.

Note: While the manual was first introduced in the 1940s, the version you will receive was published in 1956. Basic Training for Toastmasters remains valuable today, but it’s important to keep in mind that it contains language and ideas that are characteristic of the early 1950s in the United States. We have made edits to address offensive language and ideas within the content but you may still find that not all examples and recommendations are relevant to you. In addition, if you come across content that is offensive, please share this feedback with us for consideration as we look at future edits. This historic record shows how far Toastmasters has come in embracing inclusivity, but there is still much to be learned from Smedley’s early version of the education program!
